Turmeric powder (Haldi)
Turmeric powder is made from the dried root and has a vibrant yellow colour. It should be added in a small quantity to curries as they tend to impart a medicinal flavour if used in large quantities. It is a spice that is found in almost all Indian kitchens and in my kitchen I use it in almost all of my meat, fish and vegetable recipes for its earthy taste, colour as well as its anti-inflammatory properties.
